March was Women’s Month

I feel bad for not being able to blog as often. This month was (was! It’s almost over!) Women’s Month and I was not able to write a single blog post about it. Boohoo.

But the Health and Wellness team of writers (all of them beautiful women) at the poc.net worked hard all month to make the March publication full of interesting and eye-opening informative articles. Most articles were about women – women’s leading diseases, fitness, as well as emotional well-being.

Being at the forefront of almost everything –  whether managing the home, a company or, heck, a country -, women have the tendency to put the needs of others ahead of their own. But reading all the articles on this month’s publication opened my eyes to my vulnerability as a woman to various conditions.

Heart disease is always thought to be a male disease, but in fact it is the leading cause of death of women in the Philippines. Diabetes, stroke, HIV – these are diseases that affect women especially. Prevention and awareness of the early signs are key to keeping clear of these “women” diseases.

And then there’s the issue of abuse. Since the enactment of RA 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children Act in 2004, more and more cases of abuse have been reported. While this is a good sign that shows growing awareness and empowerment among women, there are still many women who suffer in silence, letting themselves be treated like door mats and punching bags. These women need to know that there is life outside an abusive relationship, and feel empowered enough to take that step to freedom.

Knowing, knowledge. That is the key. Through writing informative articles, we hope to spread awareness and somehow make a dent on the lives of our readers, women and men alike.

Just as I am inspired to live healthier while reading these articles, I hope you are too.

So go, click na. Now na! 😛

Shu Uemura beauty loot | White Recovery EX

A few months ago, I blogged about having claimed my Php10,000-worth of gift certificates from Shu Uemura. Back in December, I joined an online rafflle promo of Visa and I was one of the lucky consolation prize winners! So I finally was able to get my Shu Uemura beauty loot.

After the Expo Mom event at Rockwell on Mother’s Day, I was finally able to use the GCs at the Shu Uemura Boutique. Accompanied by Julie, I splurged all 10k!

I decided to get skin care products because I rarely wear makeup. Besides, it’s good investment for the future.

So how far did the 10K worth of GCs get me? Here is my Shu Uemura beauty loot.

The Gift of Good Health

Today I realized that, two years ago, I would never have imagined myself running 5 kilometers. Back then, just going up a flight of stairs made me dizzy. My health was in such a bad shape. Looking back, I am thankful that I was able to regain control of my health. Having good health is something I am thankful for. I hope to inspire others with my weight-loss story.

So, I ran my first 5k race. And the official results are out. I was far from being last. 😀

Please read the rest of the entry at my fitness blog, Project:Fit.

My First 5K Experience

I ran my first 5k race last Sunday with the Pinay In Action Fun Run.

I learned about the event only about 2 weeks ago, so I did not have enough time to prepare myself. But I have wanted, for the longest time, to join a run. And if I procrastinated and made up flimsy excuses again, I will never be able to join any race. So I jumped in and registered with Pinay In Action.

The race was fun. It was difficult. It was exhilarating. I’m glad for my family’s support.

Read about my race experience and check out the photos in my fitness blog – Project: Fit. Thanks!

Surprised By The Scale (UPDATED!)

Usually, I weigh myself once a week. But ever since I gained over five whopping pounds (ssshh! Don’t tell anyone) during the Christmas season, I started ignoring the scale. Hmp!

Last Saturday, after taking a bath, I nonchalantly stepped on the little thing. With no expectations of course.

Why, I was surprised! I’ve lost five fabulous founds pounds! I am now back to my pre-Christmas weight. I am surprised because I don’t feel I have been working that hard on losing weight. Yes I go to the gym – three times a week at best. But due to my morning Mandarin classes, I often miss out on the cycling classes.

So what made the difference? No, it’s not some magical weight loss pills. It’s something I’ve been doing on the treadmill. I will blog about it in my fitness blog. 😉 The blog entry is now posted at my fitness blog, Project:Fit. go check it out!
