Diet meal delivery, anyone?

A lot of friends I know started the year with one goal: to lose weight. Raise your hands if you’re in the same boat.

So we resolve to eat healthier, go back to the gym, start running, get into sports. Besides, what’s a better time to renew commitments to a goal than at the start of a year?

But life gets in the way, reality sinks in, and the excitement over the prospects of losing a few pounds wears off. I am currently in this boat.

One of the quickest ways to lose weight is through proper diet. I’ve heard from fitness instructors at the gym that working out alone will not bring about the best results. It has to be coupled with a diet regimen.

Ideally, a weight loss diet should be low in fat and high-glycemic-index (GI) carbohydrates, and high in fiber, low-GI carbs (the good carbs), and proteins. However, for most busy people, it’s almost impossible to stick to such a diet without taking too much of their time in preparation. Eating out would seem to be the most convenient choice for those with nine-to-five jobs. But we know how that fastfood is full of the bad stuff – fats, carbs and sodium.

Shopping for the right ingredients and cooking entail too much time – something that most busy people don’t have. A good option (for those who can afford it) is diet meal delivery. One can have diet meals delivered to the workplace. Restaurants and kitchens that offer this convenient service usually have extensive menus that cover different weight-loss diets. A favorite that has worked wonders for me is the South Beach Diet. I lost 15 pounds in a month. Unfortunately (or fortunately!), because my body was so healthy, I easily got pregnant. 😀

Because I was a work-at-home mom, I was able to prepare my own SBD meals. But if I were working a dayjob, it would have been difficult – with family meals to prepare on top of my own diet meals.

How about you? Have you ever tried diet meal delivery? Would you be willing to try? If I can afford it, and if it will bring me closer to my weight loss diet, I’d go for it too.

Eat to lose weight

So, as expected, it seems like I seriously need to lose a few (read: five to ten) pounds.

To get myself started on this great, big task, I began not eating rice during dinner – no rice after 6! But I know I have to be doing more than that if I want to shed the fat. I know, though that even the best diet pills on the market are out of the question. No, thanks.

Do you know that there are foods to eat to help you lose weight? According to an article on Women’s Health, these foods make us feel full longer, keep the blood sugar levels low longer, help burn fat faster and even reduce blood triglycerides (the bad fats). What are these foods?

  • berries
  • low-fat yogurt
  • peanuts
  • turkey
  • breakfast cereals
  • enova oil

Of course, a healthy diet must consist of more than just the ones mentioned above. I learned a while back (when I began losing weight 3 years ago) that it really isn’t rocket-science. All we need to eat healthily is common sense – choose a lean cut of meat over a fatty one, brown over white rice, fruits over junk, baked over fried…

And then, choose to just do it! (The most difficult part).
