My First Vinyasa Yoga Class

This is a belated post on the vinyasa yoga class for bloggers held at the Vinyasa Yoga Center two weeks ago. It’s been on paper-draft, but my PC has been (still is) sick. Hay, buhay.

A few months after starting Project:FitMom, I began going to the gym. I often attended group classes such as cycling, aero-combat, Pilates. All are physically challenging. But there is one class I’ve always been interested in but found too intimidating – yoga.

So when I heard of the collaboration between Jane and The Blog & Soul Movement for a bloggers’ Vinyasa yoga class, i hesitated signing up for a while. But I’m glad I went anyway. Opportunities to meet up with blogger-friends such as Cookie, Dine and Jane are always welcome, of course.

The class was held at the Vinyasa Yoga Center in Ortigas, led by Teacher Pio Baquiran. As teacher Pio introduced the origins of yoga, I realized that yoga will definitely help in deepening my practice of Buddhism. Weight Loss and Detox Methods

Among the many benefits of detoxification, many people employ its techniques for weight loss. Detoxification is a form of alternative medicine which utilizes natural forms such as herbs and essential oils to cleanse the body of toxins. Proponents of alternative medicine claim that by eliminating these toxins, the body’s ability to function efficiently is restored, thus making recovery from certain illnesses faster. Obesity is one such illness.

There are several ways of performing detoxification. For weight loss, the most common is by preparation of high-fiber drinks from blended organic vegetables, grains and herbs. Then there are colon cleanser tablets, used by many celebrities for weight loss and over-all health improvement. Popping the tablet, of course, is more convenient than preparing vegetable shakes.

Whatever detox method you are interested in trying, always remember to read up first. There are certain preparations that should be done prior to detoxifying.

My say on detox? Nothing beats the practice of moderate, healthy living. As my weight loss experiences taught me, the best methods to ensure long-lasting weight loss are still the basics – healthy eating and physical activity. Fad diets and pills will come and go, but these two will always remain.

Sounds like bad news to some, eh? 😛

Progesterone for PMS

I’ve had my share of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). The most evident symptoms I get are mood swings, irritability, cravings for salty chips (!!!), back pain and migraine. But I’ve never really looked into getting medications for it because I feel like these symptoms come naturally around that time of the month.

But then again, some women I know don’t get PMS at all, while there are those who are severely debilitated by it. For those who get severe PMS symptoms, there used to be synthetic progesterone-like drugs. But now, there are natural progesterone medications in cream form. Many experts on women’s health recommend these bio-identical creams over the synthetic forms of progesterone for the obvious reasons that natural is always better. And, progesterone cream works just as well in preventing menopausal symptoms.

Hmmm… I’ll keep this info in mind for future reference.

Patchy is Wired

My dear daughter iPatch got “wired” last week!

When I was growing up, braces were perceived to be just for the R.K.s (rich kids). Hence I did not have them. Nowadays, braces are a necessity. Patch needed to get braces because her mandible and maxillary bones were too small to accommodate all her permanent teeth. Yep, it’s getting pretty crowded in her mouth. Her canines have been trying to get out for some time already, but there simply wasn’t any room for them anymore. Continue reading Patchy is Wired

I’m Half-way There!

The latest stats show that I am half-way to my goal! And it feels so rewarding.

The road to my halfway was not easy. I worked hard on my appetite, keeping myself from eating too much rice during family meals or devouring the lot of my own Weekend Cook creations. On countless times, a chocolate bar or a bag of chips called out to me and it took all my determination to resist! On those times that I took the bait, I simply forgave myself and moved on. (People, the keywords are “move on”!)
