Last week I attended a cooking demo at the SM Hypermarket in Centris Station along EDSA in Quezon City. The demo featured some easy and quick recipes by food blogger Caren Yrastorza of The Eating Room.
In a cooking demo entitled “My Favorite Recipes”, Caren showed how to cook some simple dishes such as the Pesto Cream Fusilli Pasta, which she oomphed by adding shiitake mushrooms.
Chicken Crispers are a quick dinner idea for moms on the go. All it takes are some chicken breast strips seasoned with salt and pepper, dipped in beaten eggs then in breadcrumbs, then deep-fried quickly. A tomato salsa or a simple garlic-mayo dip go perfectly with golden chicken crispers.
My favorite among the recipes Caren did during the demo is the Smoked Bangus Pate. Unfortunately I do not have a photo (though it’s up there in the first photo, the mixture in the blender 😀 ). But here’s the recipe:
1 medium-sized fried smoked bangus fillet
1 box of cream cheese
half a cup of all-purpose cream
2 tbps lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste
In a blender, put in one piece of flaked medium-sized fried smoked bangus fillet (minus the head, tail, skin, and bones), 1cream cheese, all-purpose cream, lemon juice, and salt and pepper. Pulse until smooth and creamy. Serve with crostini rounds or crackers.
If chilled, mixture will somewhat harden into a mousse. I’d love to try this one at home. I will surely post pics here if and when I do.
SM Hypermarket regularly holds cooking demos such as this one. I think it’s a good idea because demos like these show that home-cooked meals are not impossible, no matter what busy lives we have. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated, and we don’t have to subject ourselves to taking supplements such as colon cleansing pills to make up for the unhealthy food we eat.
Watch out for more cooking demos and other fun activities at the SM Hypermarket near you.
