My sister Sherry Gonzalez, a Baguio-based wedding cake designer, joined the recent Kasalang Filipino Wedding Fair held at Camp John Hay, Baguio City.
December is wedding season in the Philippines. With the wonderful climate around this time and the abundance of picture-perfect venues, Baguio City is fast becoming one of the country’s favorite wedding destinations. So for those who are in search of a wedding cake designer in Baguio, let me pitch my sister’s custom wedding cakes at Cake Box.

My sister started making fondant cakes for family and some friends as a hobby in 2010. We thought she should start taking orders, so she did. And the orders just kept coming. And that’s how Cake Box came to be.
Although self-taught, Sherry attended several cake decorating courses with renowned baking masters like Sylvia Reynoso-Gala, and the award winning UK-based Filipina duo Valeri Valeriano and Christina Ong of Queen of Hearts Couture Cake. Sis has come a long way since 2010. Sherry began with simplistic designs, and progressed to more elaborate cakes as clients ask her to make their dream wedding cakes a reality.
Whenever I see her work, I am awed at the creativity and unfazed determination that go into her cakes. Sherry spends sleepless nights just to create one masterpiece.
I’ll stop the babble and let the photos speak for themselves.
This 5-layer hand painted fondant wedding cake is one of Cake Box’s earliest works.
Cherry blossom fondant cake with a Japanese teapot topper –
Nude cake (because there’s no fondant covering) – this one was designed for a rustic wedding theme. So there are layers of strawberry shortcake and red velvet cake, luscious frosting in between, and fresh strawberries too. Yum!
Succulents are all the rave lately. So this rustic wedding cake with real succulents is so in.
An autumn themed wedding cake –
Classic or traditional themed weddings can opt for this classic multiple-cakes setup. And yes, that is a real mini fountain. 🙂
This pretty birdcage vintage themed wedding cake is one of my favorites.
Grecian inspired fondant cake –
Mehndi art cake – the design was manually piped with icing, stroke by stroke. (No stencils here.) Beautiful labor of love!
Classic pearls and lace fondant cake for Victorian weddings –
Another Victorian wedding cake with hand-crafted gum paste rose ruffles on bottom tier –
A more contemporary take on the ruffle cake with decorative swirls –
Cake Box has so much more wedding cake photos. If you have a design or concept in mind, just bring it to Sherry and she will do the rest. 😉
Choices of cake flavors are: banana walnut (best-seller), red velvet, carrot cake, and choco moist. The price range of a custom cake begins at Php5,000, depending on the design and size of the cake.
How soon to book, you might ask. Best is at least 3 months to make sure you get into the calendar. (December to February are her busy months.)
Cake Box creates custom cakes, cupcakes and other goodies for all celebrations. For inquiries and reservations, you can get in touch with Sherry through her Cake Box Facebook page.
