French Toast Bake Recipe | Breakfast idea

french toast bake recipeI don’t blame Pinterest for the long hours wasted pinning and repinning. It’s a wonderful place! Pinterest is where I find gorgeous home decor, helpful housekeeping tips, and lots of yummy recipes. And it’s so easy to file away stuff you find – just pin to a board and hope you’d remember to go back and actually try them out in real life. 😀 But this french toast bake recipe looked too yummy and easy to just leave it forgotten at my FOOD! board.

I was lucky to get one volunteer to assist so V and I gathered all we needed one night after dinner. Continue reading French Toast Bake Recipe | Breakfast idea

Double dose of funny quips

In this blog, there’s a category I dedicated to V called “V Quips”. It’s all about her witty and funny remarks.

Well, she doesn’t stand alone now in the funnies category. Nate’s vocabulary and speech talents have grown in the recent months by leaps and bounds.

Here’s a couple of the duo’s recent riot lines.

~~~
V, memorizing a Bible verse for Christian Education test. She quotes a verse in Isaiah, with feelings and actions: “All the grasses may wither and the flowers may fall, but your word shall remain forever.” (imagine her dramatic way of talking and acting.)
She pauses, with an discontented look. “Hmmmm, you know, Mom, it should be: All the grasses may wither and the flowers may fall, but your word shall remain for all. That sounds better, right? It should rhyme…”
~~~

(I posted this on my Facebook profile, but I wanted to share it here.)

I hear Nate getting back from his afternoon walk with the neighborhood kids. He races up the stairs and into our bedroom where I was napping. With twinkling eyes and that adorable smile (this little boy will break a lot of hearts), he gives me two gumamela flowers:

Nate to me: “For you! Put it on your ears… I know you love pink… Don’t let it die!”

And the punchline, with a half-wink (he still can’t do a full wink): “Papa never give(s) you flowers…”

All together now: *aawwwwww*

Enter, Miss V to burst the bubble… “You know,  sioti (little brother), Mom’s favorite color is blue. She hates pink.”

Making Artzooka 3d cards (mouth pop-up cards)

This afternoon, V was inspired to make Artzooka 3d cards that she saw on the show. The kids have been OD’ing on TV all summer. That’s okay – it’s summer anyway. They won’t be getting this much TV when school starts so, sige laaaang…

Look at what V made from scratch, inspired by Artzooka, a program on Nickelodeon that features cool art projects.

The cards are actually called mouth pop-up cards, and I found this video that illustrates how they are made.

To make Artzooka 3d cards, you will need:

At least 2 pieces of colored art paper (V used construction paper here)

scissors

glue

coloring materials (crayons, colored pens, colored pencils)

googly eyes (optional. You can instead draw eyes, or make cutout eyes, like V did.)

Artzooka 3d cards pop-up alienA pink alien, probably from Venus?

Artzooka 3d cards pop-up bruce sharkBruce the shark and all his sea-creature friends. There’s a crab there somewhere that Nate drew.

Artzooka 3d cards pop-up yellow duckieThe Duckie… before I stewed it in beer… I guess…. 😀 Hahahahaha!

Making these Artzooka 3d cards, along with another one (a dog!) she sent as a birthday card for a cousin, kept V busy one whole afternoon. Actually, these 3D/pop-up creations make great greeting card ideas.

V based the alien design on the Artzooka episode. The duck and the shark, however, are her very own designs.

So you see? TV isn’t bad all the time. 😀

Bed talk, bird talk and more V Quips

A few recent nights have reminded me that bedtime is the best time for priceless moments and senseless talk with my kids.

One night the talk turned tender… To tenders, in fact. Blame it on too much cartoons, Nate has a a Kungfu Panda way of thinking whenever he hears the word “tenders”.

Me: Achi* ate chicken tenders for meryenda kanina.

Nate: Oooh, my tenders!

Patch: What?? Ma, what are chicken tenders made of?

Me (makapang-asar lang): Tenders of chicken!

Patch: *grossed out* x_x

After that, the kids spent a good few minutes shadow boxing. The girls’ hand-shadows *punched* Nate as he pretended to either evade or get hurt with the punches. Teehee. Kaaliw sila.

*Achi is Fookienese way of calling the eldest sister in the family.

If V has witty quips, Nate seems to have his own thing going too…

Nate: Ma, boys have bird ba?

Me: Yes.

Nate: Papa has bird?

Me: Yes.

Nate: Same size ba bird namin?

Where in the world do kids get these questions???????

~~~
Of course, I’ll never run out of V quips. Here are her latest. Continue reading Bed talk, bird talk and more V Quips
V Quips are back!
Actually, V has had a lot of bloggable quips since the school year began. But I haven’t had time to capture them in text or in photos. Finally here they are, though no photos yet.
~~~

On the way home from school one afternoon. In the background on the radio, there’s a contest being held for Supafest tickets. Give the correct answer to the question and you win tix. Question: What do you call the plastic at the ends of shoelaces?

V (in a calm voice): Aglets

Me: What?

V: Aglets. The answer is aglets.

Me: Where did you learn that?

V: From TV! I learned it from Phineas and Ferb. TV rocks!

Unfortunately, we were not fast enough to text the answer. Pffffft.

From a Filipino subject seatwork. Topic:  Pangngalang pantangi at pambalana. Panuto: Tukuyin kung ang salita ay pambalana o pantangi. Kung pantangi, isulat ang salitang pambalanang katumbas nito.

So far lahat naman okay, until…

Ateneo de Manila –> pantangi –> pandesal –> isang malaking X mula sa guro!

Me: Ano ‘to? Bakit pandesal??

V: Eh kasi it sounded like Pan de Manila eh…

~~~
Topic in English is how to use the dictionary, so she has been practicing searching for words in it. One day, she sounded… hmmm.. I dunno, parang excited or intrigued.
