Do you love your job? (Thoughts on SAHMing, Blogging and Domesticity)

This week, Julie’ question at GreenBucks is:

Do you love your job?

I  L-O-V-E my current ‘jobs’ – being a fulltime mom/wife, and being a blogger.

There are times when the mommy duties get too overwhelming, the daily routine becomes tiring ( I can say “boring“, Julie. Who’s gonna fire me?? LOL ), and I wish I had a bit more to spend. But looking back to those days when I was still working in the marketing industry, I say I love what I am doing now – more than the income I used to make.

Yes, life was more comfortable then. But, as I always say, no income or title is worth sacrificing my children’s growing years for.

As for my other ‘job’ – blogging… I have been blogging for nearly three years now. Through it I make a little bit of income, just enough to pay for monthly internet subscription and a few other things.

Aside from the beautiful friendships, blogging has led to many opportunities to improve myself. Writing has always been a frustration, but now it is something I  actually do (whether you like it or not, hehe).

Some people have frowned upon my going from corporate to domestic. Someone once even said ‘sayang ang pinag-aralan’. But going full-time-mom doesn’t mean going ditzy. I blog, and strive to improve my skill as a blogger. Everyday, I learn new things as husband throws me some technical thing to research on. I am currently studying Mandarin. And, oh yeah, I am also considering going into a new business venture (more details later, folks, when it is nearly tangible. Right now it’s just an idea I’m toying with).

It all really depends on the person. If you go stagnant as soon as you decide to be a stay-at-home, that is entirely your choice. As for me, WHAMing/SAHMing is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

[UPDATE, 5/17/2011] The most important point (with regard to that comment from someone) is this:

How can anything parents invest in their children be a waste? More than for your day jobs and careers, using your education to teach your own children and guide them through their most important years is the best way to put your education to good use. IMHO. Bow.

Penmanship Tag

I was tagged by Hipncoolmomma –

The rules are simple.

1. Write down who tagged you.

2. Answer these:

-your name / username / pseudo

-right-handed or left-handed?

-your favorite letters to write?

-your least favorite letters to write?

– Write “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.”

3. Tag five persons. 😛

~~~
The photo above shows my handwriting at its best. I tried my best to write slowly and legibly. Yeah, it could be worse. hehehe. I think I was born a leftie, but because of whatever stigma that was attached to lefties during the era of my birth (primitive thinkers back then… no, it wasn’t that long ago naman. Naman! ), I was forced by my folks to write with my right. All other tasks I do with my left.
Lynn, Mauie, Tetcha, Julie, Cookie – show the world your handwriting! 😛 Continue reading Penmanship Tag
In Our Lunch Box – Pork Patties and Mushrooms
Last Wednesday, my kids and hub took a break from chicken and had pork patties with mushroom.
The patties (made of ground pork, minced onions, minced carrots, eggs, and flour… salt and pepper of course…) are browned in a little bit of canola, and then set aside to drain. Sauce is prepared by sauteing garlic, onions and mushrooms in butter; soy sauce is used to season and make the sauce brown. I use cornstarch to thicken the sauce.
Fab Holiday Find – Silver
The theme for this week is SILVER.
Bazaars that sprout during the Christmas season are just wonderful treasure troves. I found this silver-plated fasyon ring at the Big Tent Bazaar, same day as when I found the fabo zebra-clutch for tita.
I bought 2 other rings (different designs) so I got a 20% discount on all three. 😀 I like how unique this piece is, although I don’t think it will look very nice on my stubby hands. I think this will perfectly fit sister # 3!
Oh, that surface where the ring is standing on? It’s my silver-chassis laptop. Hub helped me buy it – I paid 1/3 of its price with my blogging income. The rest is hub’s Christmas gift for me. Isn’t that kewl??? Hub bought it from a friend/gadget-shop owner, so we got about 10% discount. *insert banana_rock icon here*
spring plungers are silver things, but do not exactly make fab finds.
Fab Holiday Finds – White
I kinda had a hard time looking for something white. So my post isn’t really pure white. But it’s till quite fabulous.
Some time in October, I found myself wandering through the stalls at the Big Tent Bazaar. (As if I was zapped into the place by aliens, no? 😀 LOL) It was this shopping expedition, albeit a solo flight, that launched my holiday shopping this year.
I found lots of good-priced sale items there, including clothes, silk ties, fashion jewelry and the fabo clutch bag below. It’s a 12-inch zebra-print clutch with blue patent accents. The inside is lined with hot pink canvas. I got this for under P200.00 (of course, haggling skills came to the rescue). *insert banana-rock emoticon here* Continue reading Fab Holiday Finds – White
